Adding a few more "lace inspired" details to the roof. Painting brown vines on all four sides, and decoupaging a pair of birds on the front.
I loved the suggestion Karianne from Thistlewood Farm left as a comment on my last post about this project- "I like both your ideas on what to do with it. Could you put it on a pedestal on your bookcase? "
Brilliant idea! Something I never would have thought of on my own, but as soon as I read it, it struck a cord with me. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of a short pedestal! So off I went to the craft store for supplies.
I found a candle stick that would make a great dado for the pedestal. First, I squashed the metal cup that's supposed to hold the actual candle down because it was raised up over the top of the wood.
Then I determined the stick looked better if it was flipped over. And last but not least I painted it to match the roof's color scheme. I'm still working on the paint. The pink needs some additional coats and all the lines need a few touchups, but the general look is there.
Here's the house and dado standing on the wooden base.
I'm not entirely happy with the size of base... I think it's too large. I haven't painted it yet because I'm going to go to another store today and see if they have some other options. (Which will also give me some more time to figure out how I want the base to look.)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! You are so awesome! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much, that's really sweet.
ReplyDeleteIt's really looking great! The pedestal is just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteSeriously....that is so cute! I just got home and I went to check your post....perfection. So smart to add the block of wood.

Love it! Good for you taking the suggestion and running with it! I am with you tho - different base!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the next update!
I think to balance the overall weight of the peice (decorative AND physical!) u need to stack several wood "plagues" on top of each other to create the base.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone.
ReplyDeleteBuggalcrafts- it's funny you should mention this. I've been playing around with this idea!
Very cute! Can just see this as a party centerpiece or candy buffet accent, too!
