It's the first time I've ever done weaving like this and so far I'm really happy with how easy and fun a project it's been. I'm mostly using handspun yarn from my first spinning classes- which didn't turn out exactly well enough to knit with but seem perfect for this type of project. I'm also throwing in some leftover scraps of machine spun yarn that I like.
I don't know exactly what it's going to be yet... maybe just a nice mat to throw under a vase on the table. But I do know that I'm taking it with me tonight when we go to the drive-in! (It's the first weekend of their summer season and I'm so excited to go.)
This was a shot I took there last year (I remember I was knitting). Having a wool project to cozy up with on these chilly nights early in the drive-in season it especially nice.
Which is good because I still have a way to go before I'm done.

Oh Meg! You have absolutely made my whole weekend! I am thrilled that you decided to make a Saori weaving using the cardboard loom. AND best of all - you used handspun! And imperfect handspun at that - which is even better!

Thank you for the great tutorial Pam. If this project is a good example of basic loom weaving then I think I'll be dabbling with weaving more in the future.
ReplyDeleteOf course I saw the post (Pam is filed under a very exclusive tab in my reader- "Good Stuff", the first stop on every journey through blogland!) and I have weaving in the "to- do" box now. Especially now that I have seen how awesome your attempt turned out! I always think that Pam has magic hands, and unless you have magic hands, too (which would not surprise me at all after looking at all the wonderful things you do!), I might just be able to do a little weaving myself. Thanks so much for this post!
