C is for...

cake.
A Cookie cake that is.

For my nephew's Sesame Street themed 3rd birthday party.

This was the first year he was old enough to really get what was happening and he was excited about everything (including the cake)! The second he saw Cookie Monster on top of the cake he wanted it.

And the cookies around the sides barely made it through blowing out the candles before his little hands were peeling them off and popping them into his mouth.

Later he got to take a few bites out of cookie monster.

Poor cookie didn't know what he was in for as he road to the party on my lap.

I had a fun exploring the new-to-me world of candy clay sculpting (which is what I made Cookie Monster out of). But I have to say- cake making is exhausting! Each time I make a cake (even a small one like this- which had a standard round for the base) it takes me a long time to recover. Thankfully much of what goes into making a cake can be done ahead of time in little bits and pieces.

I'm not sure if I'd use candy clay for something like this again. It started out soft and easy to sculpt (truly like play dough). But once it was done and sitting the candy clay became brittle and fragile. By the time it went onto the cake bits of "fur" were falling off whenever I handled it.

I don't know if this is just the way candy clay behaves or if I did something wrong when making it. If anyone has candy clay experience I'd love your input!

  1. I've never tried making candy clay so I'm not help, but I would imagine that temperature and/or humidity might play a role in how it handles.

    It is adorable!

  2. Cookie Monster - second only to Oscar the Grouch. My two most beloved puppets.

On my next birthday - I am ordering an Oscar the Grouch cake! That is if you think it will ship clear across the continent!!!

  3. Good point Craftymoose- it'd be interesting to experiment and see if these factor into the way the clay behaves and dries.

  4. Oscar was always a favorite of mine too Pam. (As well as Grover and Ernie).

I actually originally wanted to make an Oscar cake but my sister wanted to have cookie.

  5. Completing a capstone paper is only part of the story. Once the project is done, you need to write a report on it, drawing the final line on your findings https://essaysrescue.com/123helpme-review/ and solutions. Get an expert who knows how to structure it properly and write it according to requirements.
