Father's Day Rice Krispie Pops- Sweet n Treat of the Month

This shirt and tie pop is a perfect treat for Father's Day!

And it's a lot simpler to make than you might think because they start with a box of store-bought Rice Krispie treats!

Here's what you need to make these:

  • Pre-made Rice Krispie Treats (of course you could make your own cereal treats too)
  • Parchment Paper
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • 2 Bags of White Chocolate Candy for the shirt (Or experiment by making different color shirts)
  • One or Two colors of Chocolate Candy for the Tie (I used blue and yellow)
  • Plastic Sandwich Bags
  • Toothpicks (optional)
  • Microwave-safe Containers for Melting Chocolate Candy
  • Small Pairing Knife
  • Baking or Serving Tray that can go into your freezer
  • Sheet of Styrofoam For pops To Stand In

Tip: When using RK treats I like to work on parchment paper. The marshmallow doesn't stick to the parchment so you never have to worry about oiling your surface.

Line a tray and the counter with a parchment. Also cut a small piece, about 4x3, and set aside. This will be used later to press each RK treat.

Unwrap each treat and use a pairing knife to cut a "V" shape out of one end.

Press the "V" so it's flat and smoosh (that's a technical term) it onto the back of the RK treat. This makes the basic collar shape for your folded shirt.

Melt a little white chocolate candy and dip the end of each lollipop stick into the chocolate before inserting it into the bottom (uncut end) of the RK Treat.

Lay the small piece of parchment over the RK Treat so it's now sandwiched between two pieces of parchment. Use your hand to gently press the RK treat just a little so the surface flattens out a bit. This helps to get a smoother surface when you dip the treat into chocolate.

Once you have a tray full of treats stick them in the freezer for about 15 minutes so the chocolate on the sticks and the treats themselves firm up.

While the treats are hardening, melt the white chocolate in the microwave. I used the better part of 2 bags to dip a dozen treats.

Dip each treat into the chocolate and shake off any excess by tapping the stick on the side of the container. Set the pop into the styrofoam to dry.

Most of the rest of the steps are done by piping melted chocolate with a sandwich bag. If you're not familiar with this technique I've explained it here.

Pipe on a white pocket and collar. Once that's dry pipe the tie.

Tip: To get the tie straight it helps to "sketch" it first using a toothpick. This will give you a faint line you can follow with your piping bag.

Last but not least you can add a few details on the tie in a contrasting color using a toothpick.

Hope all those Dads out there enjoy!
