What I gave my husband for Valentine's Day

As I mentioned I've been sick with this bug/flu/horrible absolutely awful virus thats been going around. I am now home (thankfully, as I couldn't take another day in the hospital) and feeling a bit better.

Needless to say it was going to be a very low-key Valentines since being sick all week.

We were going to skip the gifts this year anyway- instead Steve was going to make a nice Romantic meal (obviously out- since food has been out of the question).

I ended up getting flowers, earlier this week. It was really sweet and the brightened up both my mood and the room I was in.

I had all sorts of plans for this past week: I was going to make Lucy a collar painted with little hearts. Then I was going to make some Valentines cards and Heart shaped cookies with Jam in the middle for friends and family (also again, obviously out...).

I still wound up making my husband a quick little card (I couldn't let the day pass without at least that) and gave it to him this morning when he woke up.

Oh yeah, and didn't I mention...I also gave him the virus I had! Fortunately he didn't get it as bad, but he still feels lousy. (It's a bit of a 2 for 1 card)

Down for the Count

I've been feeling horribly ill for a few days now. There is a wicked stomach virus going around that has actually landed me a place in the hospital- getting fluids, and hopefully feeling better soon.

Being here has given me lots of time but very little of the things I need for blogging: a craft, a camera, the will to do anything but lay here.

I did have my husband bring a bit of knitting for me yesterday, but I have yet to do any of it. Here is an old (and really dark) picture of a new scarf- it really doesn't look much different from this photo, just a few inches longer.

I'm using a really fun yarn Di. Ve Fiamma in the lavender color 18795. That I got (on sale) from my local yarn store (huge, amazing, can't believe its so close to me, yarn heaven) webs.

Also, just for the cute factor (and because I haven't seen her for a few days and miss her)- a picture of Lucy after she helped paint the kitchen. She is very crafty and helpful, never resisting a painting project no matter what mom and dad do to try and keep her out of it.

Missed it by that much- my Anti-Valentine

Here is my entry in the Black Heart Anti-Valentines Contest at dabbled

I think "Valentine" and my mind jumps right to card- so why not an anti-valentine card. The idea for a card to cupid (and his missed targets) had already started percolating but really solidified after a good friend had her relationship break-up last week. This card brought me back to some of my own anti-valentines spirit of past years- and I had a lot of fun making this!

Here are some close-ups and details:

The card is 7x7. The heart target on the inside center panel is a combination of hearts traced using cookie cutters as stencils and some hand lettering. The missed arrow holes are punched through the velum backing and card.

A detail of the shot list and the tiny broken heart at the top.

The arrows are made using skewers cut in half. The arrow heads are polymer clay, and the ends are paper hearts cut in half then glued in place.

Crafty Wishes

This weekend was a crafty weekend. I played around with ideas to my "hearts" content while watching a DVD with my husband on Friday night. I spent most of Saturday in my studio and spending time with my husband.

I even alternated enjoying the warm (mid 40's) weather with reading and crafting on Sunday.

It was just one of those weekends when you really just don't want to do much. And instead of doing the things you have to do (grocery store, post office, bank, laundry) you do the things you want to do.

Then Monday came... and by the end of the very long work day (thanks to a sudden last minute project that came my way at the end of the day) I could not have wished more to have the crafty, leisurely, wonderful, lovely weekend back.
