Quilled Cupcake Toppers

Never in a million years would I have thought that cupcakes and quilling went together. But when I saw the idea for quilled cupcake toppers in Cecelia Louie's book, Pretty Quilled Cards (which I reviewed last week) quilling and cupcakes suddenly seemed perfect for each other.

In Cecelia's book her cupcake toppers have either a pattern for lovely quilled flowers or templates you can copy and print.

But I really wanted to make Easter specific cupcakes, so I made my own graphics then quilled around the edges as shown in the book.

I love how they turned out and will definitely be making more for other holidays. I'm already picturing a set of these for 4th of July and Halloween!

These are a great project for a beginner. You only need to do a basic paper curl to make a set of these (unless you make the quilled flower version). Once you get in the groove it goes pretty fast. I made a bunch of paper curls while watching T.V. then glued all the toppers together at the same time.

  1. Adorable toppers Meg - I never thought of that for Easter! Love how colorful and festive they are.

  2. More Meg Awesomness! The cakes and the toppers!

  3. On the 4th of July Wreath are the circles really 2 1/2 inch or is that a type error? and if so what size are they suppose to be. alicejimcars@hotmail.com

    1. I used a mug as a template, so I just measured a mug in the cabinet and they are about 3/12 inches.
